Why Education?

For a quite a while now, studying education at university has been more than just a course in education. The Hebrew University education program sets you en route to personal and professional development. As you travel this road you will learn life lessons about leading social change that will benefit everyone that matters, including you and your own circles. If you dream of making a difference, a degree in education may well be the right place for you to start.

Many more people have come to realize in recent years that a degree in education is a professional springboard and door opener in domains that are not necessarily part of formal education as we have always known it. It may surprise you to discover that education, both formal and informal, is one of the important occupations both in Israel and worldwide. And, naturally, if the forecasts have it right, education is here to stay and grow. If you envision your future in NPOs, politics, public administration, social change organizations, or making a place for yourself either in the public schools or in specialized schools, consider a degree in education as the starting point of your career.

Why us?

Studying for a first degree in the Seymour Fox School of Education at the Hebrew University will provide you with a profound understanding of education in theory and in practice. You will get to know the world of education at individual, group, and system level and will study its social, political, and historical aspects. Over the course of your program you will be able to choose to focus on topics that inspire you such as psychology of education, education policy, philosophy of education, sociology, and others.

Unlike other universities where education students cannot study for an additional degree, Hebrew University students enjoy expanding their education to other areas of interest, benefiting from the diversity on their doorstep in other departments. Many undergraduates combine their degree in education with psychology, sociology, or political science programs. You can take your pick of many options.

Studying at the School of Education is a multicultural experience not solely due to specialized courses in education for the multicultural society; international students and members of all walks of Israeli society also make the School of Education a place of diversity. Student exchange programs are offered, so you can complete part of your degree at some of the most prestigious universities in the world. At the Department of Education you will be learning from the top education researchers in Israel and will be offered a unique opportunity to participate in their research.

What can I do with my degree?

Your undergraduate degree in education is a stepping stone on your way to a world of further study, professional development, and advanced degrees.School of Education students interested in training to become high school teachers may choose the fast track, which combines a teaching certificate program with an undergraduate degree in education. The School offers graduate programs for students who wish to specialize in professions such as special education, teaching and learning, learning disabilities, or educational counseling. Some of our students continue their professional development in research and eventually fill key positions in academia, in the civil service, and in the private and non-profit sectors.
