The following information regarding a postgraduate program in the School of Education provides an overview of the process. The binding guidelines are listed in the code of practice of the Hebrew University Authority for Research Students and on the website of the School of Education’s postgraduate program.
Overview
Planning, conducting, and writing your dissertation form the core of your postgraduate work. You will have to find a supervisor and obtain their consent to supervise your work. A postgraduate program is limited by the regulations of the Authority for Research Students and requires to a period of 5 years which require patience, commitment, and appropriate preparation. Consider carefully whether this program is right for you? Do you want to go back to school immediately after you have completed your master’s degree? Are you really interested in research? Do you have at least 2-3 full days a week for studying? It is almost impossible to write a serious dissertation when you have only one day a week.
Goals
A postgraduate program commonly has two goals (and sometimes also a third):
- Adding two letters and a period (Dr.) before your last name.
- Conduct a doctoral research to gain professional in-depth scientific knowledge in a specific domain area.
- Occasionally this can prepare you for an academic career (in an undergraduate college or a university).
How do I proceed?
Once you have decided that a postgraduate degree is for you, you have the time it takes, and are ready for the process it involves, please select the most suitable option:
- I comply with basic terms of admission for a postgraduate program
- I have a master’s degree with a high grade but it is without a thesis
- I have a master’s degree but my grade is lower than the required threshold
- I have a master’s degree with a high grade but with a thesis in a topic that is not related to education
