Naama Gershy is an assistant professor of clinical child psychology at the Seymour Fox School of Education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She earned her MA in child clinical psychology from the Adi Lautman Interdisciplinary Program at Tel Aviv University. Naama was awarded a Fulbright doctorate fellowship and completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. Following her doctoral studies, she served as a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University Child Study Center, specializing in post-trauma and system-based work with the police. Naama's research primarily focuses on parenting. Through her scientific and theoretical work, she aims to understand the factors that contribute to parents' ability to respond sensitively, compassionately, and adaptively to their children. She investigates the dynamics that lead to hostile and coercive parenting, as well as the factors that facilitate parental availability to meet and respond to children's needs. She places particular emphasis on parents' capacity for mentalization, which involves considering their child's perspective, as well as their ability to regulate both their own and their child's negative emotions. Additionally, Naama explores how collaborative co-parenting between partners can contribute to supporting a child's development. Currently, Naama's research focuses on studying parenting processes related to raising children with ADHD, the impact of parental involvement in homework on children's academic progress, and the challenges and consequences of parenting in the digital age, where screen use and digital media play a significant role. As a clinical psychologist, Naama aims to bridge the gap between developmental science, clinical interventions, and policy. Her dedication lies in expanding the scientific understanding of parenting processes and developing evidence-based interventions to support and assist parents.
