About the Special Education concentration

The special education concentration is an opportunity for advanced studies (in research and practice) focusing on learners whose educational needs are different than the mainstream.

These include students with learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and physical disabilities, etc.

In this concentration you will develop theoretical and practical expertise preparing you for a career in the classroom, as a policy maker, or in research.

On our faculty you will find special education experts with a profound understanding of the special education classroom and children. Each member of faculty has an active role as educator in the community, schools, and at policy levels.

Theoretical and pedagogical benefits

You will receive a comprehensive introduction to models of special education classrooms with emphasis on the integrated classroom.
You will learn theoretical structures that are key to understanding children and how they develop behaviorally, socially, and emotionally.
You will become familiar with the educational and special-education systems in Israel and its legal and administrative aspects.
You will get to know about diagnosis of the many populations of children receiving special education services (learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, emotional regulation, behavioral and emotional problems, etc.).
You will gain the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to teach in a heterogeneous classroom.
Writing a final paper or two seminars trains you to be a knowledgeable consumer (and producer) of evidence-based special-education science.
You will be able to apply your theoretical knowledge in many different settings (classroom, school, and policy).
